44 Non Touristy Things to Do in Paris: By a Local

best non touristy things to do in paris

Look, Paris is a tourist destination – there’s no way around it. But with that in mind, there are still plenty of non touristy things to do in Paris to experience the city like a local. This world capital is teeming with sprawling green spaces, elegant shops, quiet neighborhoods, and hidden culinary experiences. The only trick is knowing where to find them.

I’ve been living in Paris full time for more than a year, and before I moved here, I had visited the city over twenty times, always with French friends (perks of having a French boyfriend). Between my Parisian tour guides giving me an authentic taste of the city and my own extensive exploration, I’ve found local treasures that make Paris feel less like Disneyland and more like a place where people actually live.

Today, I spend most of my time outside of the major tourist hotspots and have gotten to know Paris off the beaten path rather well. This list includes a whopping forty four non touristy things to do in Paris, ranging from sweet corners of the city to bustling local hotspots. Keep reading to discover where the Parisians actually hang out.

44 Non Touristy Things to Do in Paris: See the City Like a Local

Below is the ultimate guide on non touristy things to do in Paris. You’ll find that most of them are free to enjoy, making them ideal if you’re visiting Paris on a budget. You can also read my full Paris travel guide for more in depth information and off the beaten path tips. Happy trails!

Non Touristy Neighborhoods in Paris

Paris is so much more than the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre. If you want to feel the true heartbeat of the city, head to its lesser-known but equally charming neighborhoods. These hidden gems of Paris offer a taste of authentic life, minus the crowds.

Wander streets where locals outnumber tourists, sip coffee at cozy corner cafes, and explore boutiques where the owners greet you with a friendly “Bonjour!” Or, more likely, glare at you over their morning espresso and cigarette.

1. Hang Out in Belleville

Belleville pulses with creativity and diversity – it’s also the neighborhood I call home. This multicultural hub, straddling the 10th, 11th, 19th, and 20th arrondissements, is packed with street art, indie cafes, and quirky boutiques. While it was once Paris’ Chinatown, today, it’s a blend of Asian and North African influences, with a hefty dose of Parisian bobo culture (bourgeois Bohemian – aka the French hipster).

The area’s vibrant food scene also reflects its global influences, with everything from Tunisian pastries to Vietnamese pho. Come on a Tuesday or Friday morning for the Belleville Market, which is a sensory overload of fresh produce, spices, and local chatter.

Metro Stop: Belleville (Line 2, 11) or Pyrénées (Line 11)

2. Wander Around Oberkampf & Ménilmontant

Oberkampf & Ménilmontant is where Parisians go for a laid-back night out. These neighborhoods are in the 11th arrondissement and packed with lively bars, cozy bistros, and a buzzing music scene. Start with a glass of natural wine at the Le Perchoir rooftop, then grab pizza at Ober Mama.

But it’s not just for night owls—by day, Oberkampf and Ménilmontant’s vintage stores, record shops, and hidden courtyards make it worth exploring, too. Some of my favorite shops are Paris-Feni and Bleu Simone, both ideal for cute local souvenirs.

Metro Stop: Oberkampf (Line 5), Parmentier (Line 3), or Pyrénées (Line 11)

3. La Butte Aux Cailles

Tucked away in the 13th arrondissement, La Butte aux Cailles feels like a village within the city. The cobbled streets, colorful murals, and quiet charm make it perfect for a leisurely stroll, especially if you can imagine the vineyards and windmills that used to make up the area.

Stop by Place Paul Verlaine to admire the Art Nouveau public pool or grab a drink at one of the local bars where artists and writers hang out. For an authentic experience, visit the neighborhood on a weekday evening when Parisians gather for after-work drinks. La Buttes Aux Cailles has a significant social and political history in Paris and a handful of decent restaurants to enjoy.

Metro Stop: Place d’Italie (Line 5, 8) or Corvisart (Line 6)

4. Eat Chinese Food in the 13th

For some of the best Chinese food in Paris, skip the touristy spots and head straight to the 13th arrondissement. Known as Paris’s Chinatown, this area is a haven for foodies.

Try Chez Meilan for handmade dumplings or Pho Tai for soup that’ll make your tastebuds dance. Don’t leave without exploring the Asian supermarkets for exotic snacks and spices. It’s a deliciously different side of Paris that most visitors miss.

Metro Stop: Olympiades (Line 14) or Place d’Italie (Line 5, 6. 7)

5. Rue de Commerce & Vaugirard

If you’re craving a more local shopping experience, Rue de Commerce and Rue de Vaugirard deliver. These neighboring streets in the 15th arrondissement offer a mix of independent boutiques, classic Parisian bakeries and butchers, plus stylish homeware shops. It’s the perfect spot to shop for unique souvenirs or pick up picnic supplies to enjoy on the Champs de Mars.

Need a break? Grab a homemade cookie or seasonal lunch at Partage Cafe (tell Greg I say hey!) and people-watch on Rue Lecourbe. The pace here is slower, the vibes more authentic with lots of young families out and about.

Metro Stop: Commerce (Line 8) or Émile Zola (Line 10)

Non Touristy Parks in Paris

Skip the packed gardens and discover these lesser-known parks where Parisians unwind. Think secret green spaces, ancient history, and local vibes. There’s nothing quite as Parisian as kicking back in a park – planning for some chill time is one of the most essential non touristy things to do in Paris.

Note: Unlike most major cities, parks in Paris close at night, normally shortly after sundown. The opening times below are for the winter months. Most closing times are extended until 9 or 10PM during the summer.

6. Arènes de Lutèce

Tucked away in the Latin Quarter, the Arènes de Lutèce feels like a step back in time. Once a Roman amphitheater, it now serves as a peaceful spot where locals read, picnic, or play pétanque. Bring a book, grab a bench, and let the historic stones whisper their stories.

This is one of my all time favorite off the beaten path places in Paris and a spot that 99% of tourists miss.

Metro Stop: Cardinal Lemoine (Line 10) | Opening Hours: 8AM – 7PM (9AM on Saturday & Sunday)

7. Walk on the Coulée Verte

Paris’s version of NYC’s High Line, the Coulée Verte, is a dreamy elevated park weaving through the southeast of the city. Perfect for a slow stroll, it’s filled with lush greenery, hidden benches, and bursts of street art with lots of views out over the local neighborhoods.

Ideal for a calm afternoon walk away from the city buzz, this is one of the best non touristy things to do in Paris, especially if you need to stretch your legs.

8. Buttes de Chaumont

This park in the 19th feels like a nature escape within the city. It’s brimming with steep hills, a waterfall, and a temple perched high with panoramic views. It’s perfect for a laid-back picnic sans tourist crowds or a scenic walk.

Don’t miss the quirky suspension bridge—it’s totally Instagram-worthy. And if you’re feeling thirsty, stop by Rosa Bonheur for a pick me up.

Metro Stop: Pyrénées (Line 11), Laumière (Line 5) | Opening Hours: 7AM – 10PM

9. Go to a Concert in La Villette

La Villette is a massive park in the northeast corner of Paris and welcomes locals from every district for various reasons. There are tons of different elements of the park, like intricate playgrounds for kids of all ages, a covered dance floor, a canal to hang by, museums, bars, and multiple venues for concerts of all kinds. I saw Jeremy Zucker play here once, and I love the view from the futuristic Philharmonic building, which you can enjoy for free.

Since it’s away from the city center, visiting here is one of the best non touristy things to do in Paris.

Metro Stop: Porte de la Vilette (Line 7), Ourcq (Line 5) | Opening Hours: 6AM – 1AM

10. Watch Sunset at the Parc de Belleville

For the best sunset view minus the tourist crowds, head to Parc de Belleville. This laid-back hilltop park serves up epic skyline views, vibrant murals, and a chill, local vibe. It’s a great place to catch the sunset, and the park has extended evening hours in the summer to enjoy the scenery.

While the park gates close just after sundown (you’ll know because someone comes around blowing a whistle, telling people to pack up), there will still be plenty of people in the amphitheater space on top, which is open all night and filled with mostly young Parisians smoking joints and drinking beers with a view of the sparkling Eiffel Tower.

Metro Stop: Pyrénées (Line 11) | Opening Hours: 8AM – 5:45PM (9AM on Saturday & Sunday)

11. Bois de Vincennes or Bois de Boulogne

When you need a serious nature break, head to the Bois de Vincennes (east) or Bois de Boulogne (west).

Both wooded areas offer lakes, trails, and picnic spots where you can feel miles away from city life. Bonus points for boat rentals and cute farm animals for the kids. There’s even a zoo next to the Bois de Vincennes.

12. La Petite Ceinture

Part urban jungle, part history lesson, La Petite Ceinture is a reclaimed railway turned secret green trail. Some sections are open to the public—perfect for graffiti lovers or those seeking hidden Parisian charm and cool, nontouristy spots to explore.

The sections I recommend checking out are in Ménilmontant, Parc Promenade Pereire in the 17th arrondissement, and in Parc Montsouris in the 13th.

13. Parc Monceau

Parc Monceau is elegance wrapped in greenery. Located in the chic 8th arrondissement, it’s filled with classical statues, tree-lined paths, and ornate gates. Come here for a quiet escape with a touch of scenic old-world glamour. It’s a bit out of the way, especially if you’re in central Paris, but that’s part of its charm.

Metro Stop: Monceau (Line 2) | Opening Hours: 7AM – 8PM

14. Jardin des Plantes

A botanical dream, Jardin des Plantes is teeming with seasonal blooms and centuries-old trees. Surprisingly, it almost only attracts Parisians rather than tourists. Don’t miss the historic greenhouses, the Natural History Museum, and the zoo if you’re visiting with kiddos. There’s also an amazing dinosaur themed illumination during the evenings in the winter. I like to sit here with a book in the summer since it’s one of the quieter parks in the city.

Metro Stop: Jussieu (Line 10), Gare d’Austerlitz (Line 5, 10) | Opening Hours: 8AM – 5:30PM

15. Paris Plage

When summer hits, the Seine and banks of the canal near La Villette transform into a makeshift beach with sand, deck chairs, beach games, and even palm trees. It’s a laid-back, family-friendly way to experience Paris—no sea required. Ice cream, sunbathing, and water misters included. Bring a picnic to make a day of it!

Off the Beaten Path Paris Attractions

Beyond the glittering landmarks and postcard-perfect spots lies the hidden gems of Paris waiting to be explored. Of course, there are the must sees like the Eiffel Tour and the Arc de Triomphe, but there are plenty of other cultural, historical, and architectural attractions that are well worth the visit, especially if you’re not keen to fight your way through tourist crowds or spend all day waiting in line.

These offbeat attractions offer a fresh perspective on what Paris has to offer. From secret sites to quirky experiences the guidebooks barely mention, get ready to discover a side of the City of Light most tourists miss.

16. Saint Eustache Church

Tucked near Les Halles, Saint Eustache is an architectural masterpiece that’s often missed by tourists in favor of more popular Notre Dame or Saint Chapelle. Marvel at its towering ceilings, intricate stained glass, and one of the largest pipe organs in France, all without a line of visitors.

Bonus: it’s rarely crowded and free to enter, making it a peaceful spot for quiet reflection. Then, head up the Pompideau escalators for a free view of the city, where you can get a bird’s eye view of Saint Eustache in all its glory.

Metro Stop: Les Halles (Line 4) | Opening Hours: 10AM – 6PM (7PM on Saturday & Sunday) | Price: Free

17. Marche du Livre

Nestled in the park George Brassens (an amazing French singer) in the 15th arrondissement, Le Marché du Livre is an open-air haven of rare books, French novels, and stunning art editions.

It draws locals rather than tourists, especially those looking for a laid back stroll in a quieter part of the district. The book market is open from 9AM – 6PM on Saturday and Sunday.

Metro Stop: Porte de Vanves (Line 13) | Opening Hours: Saturdays & Sundays 9AM – 6PM

18. Play Ping Pong at Gosima (or in a Park)

Feeling competitive? Head to Gosima, a hip ping pong bar where you can drink beer and rent tables by the half hour. They have all the gear you need and it’s open from 4PM until 2AM most nights.

If you prefer the outdoors, check out the free tables in various Paris parks where locals gather for casual games—just bring your paddle and join the fun. You can buy cheap ping pong sets at Intersport or Decathalon stores throughout the city.

Metro Stop: Ménilmontant (Line 2), Rue Saint Maur (Line 3) | Opening Hours: Monday – Saturday 4PM – 2AM

19. Tour Saint Jacques

For a view that rivals the Eiffel Tower but with fewer crowds, climb the medieval Tour Saint Jacques. This historic tower stands alone as a gothic relic in the center of the city with fascinating guided tours and breathtaking panoramas – way more convenient if you want to stay in the middle of Paris.

It’s 12 euros to climb the 54 meter tower, with a lookout accessible after 300 stairs. Good physical condition is a must, but this view is one of the best in the city.

Note: You can only climb the tour between May and November. The rest of the year you can admire it from outside.

Metro Stop: Hotel de Ville (Line 1, 11) | Opening Hours: Fridays – Sundays 10AM – 5PM from May until November | Price: 12€

20. Pere Lachaise

Sure, it’s famous—but Père Lachaise Cemetery still feels like a secret garden. Wander its shaded paths lined with ivy-draped tombs and pay homage to icons like Jim Morrison, Edith Piaf, and Oscar Wilde.

Quiet, reflective, and beautifully melancholic, the sprawling space is so big you’ll be hard-pressed to come across other tourists on your visit.

Metro Stop: Pére Lachaise (Line 3) | Opening Hours: 8AM – 5:30PM (8:30AM on Saturday and 9 on Sunday) | Price: Free

For architecture lovers and bookworms alike, the Bibliothèque Nationale is a masterpiece. Its grand reading rooms and modern glass towers create a stunning contrast. It’s a great place to catch up on work while visiting the city and one of the best non touristy things to do in Paris.

The Oval Reading Room is free to visit, while the BnF museum has a stunning permanent collection full of rare treasures and exciting temporary exhibitions (10€ entry).

Smaller Museums in Paris

Paris may be famous for its grand museums, but some of its most captivating experiences are hidden in its smaller galleries and cultural spaces. These lesser-known spots are perfect for art lovers, history buffs, and curious minds who want to dive deeper into the city’s creative spirit—without the long lines.

22. Architecture Museum

Located at the Trocadéro, the Architecture Museum showcases a fascinating journey through France’s architectural evolution. Wander through life-sized replicas of famous facades, intricate scale models, and modern design innovations. My favorite part is the life size model of a Le Corbusier apartment. It’s a feast for design enthusiasts and has one of the best Eiffel Tower views in the city.

Pro Tip: Visit on the first Sunday of the month for free entry!

Metro Stop: Trocadero (Line 6, 9) | Opening Hours: 11AM – 7PM (9PM on Thursdays) | Price: 9€

23. Les Pavillons de Bercy Museum of Fairground Arts

Paris really does have a museum for everything. The glorious Museum of Fairground Arts is a magical collection of antique curiosities. It’s full of century-old carousels, retro carnival games, and whimsical decor, housed in old wine cellars. It’s a perfect spot for families or anyone craving a nostalgic escape into vintage Paris – way more unique than what you’ll find at classic art museums.

Note: You need to book a guided tour in advance on the museum’s website to visit the museum. They don’t sell tickets on site.

Metro Stop: Cour Saint Émilion (Line 14) | Opening Hours: Days and times vary | Price: 18.80€

24. National Archives Museum

Nestled in the Marais, the National Archives Museum feels like time traveling as soon as you walk through the stately gates. This free museum offers royal decrees, centuries-old letters (Marie Antoinette’s included!), and jaw-dropping historical artifacts.

Plus, the courtyard is totally Instagram-worthy and there’s a little secret garden that you can normally have all to yourself.

Metro Stop: Rambuteau (Line 11) | Opening Hours: 10AM – 5:30PM (Closed Tuesdays, opens at 2PM Saturdays and Sundays) | Price: Free

25. Cluny Museum

Step into medieval Paris at the Cluny Museum, where the iconic Lady and the Unicorn tapestries steal the show. Beyond the woven masterpieces, you’ll find Roman baths, ancient sculptures, and medieval armor that make history feel alive.

It’s right in the middle of the Saint Germain area with stunning medieval garden replicas that are the true draw to the museum (in my opinion).

Metro Stop: Cluny La Sorbonne (Line 10) | Opening Hours: Tuesday – Sunday 9:30AM – 5:45PM (closed Monday) | Price: 12€

26. Musee des Arts et Metiers

A celebration of invention, this museum spotlights human creativity with exhibits on early airplanes, the printing press, and mechanical wonders. Don’t miss Foucault’s Pendulum gracefully swinging in the old chapel—a true centerpiece.

Most people miss this museum in favor of the bigger ones, but it’s well worth the stop if you’re looking for a less crowded, more fun alternative to classic art.

Metro Stop: Arts et Métiers (Line 3, 11) | Opening Hours: Tuesday – Sunday 10AM – 6PM (closed Monday) | Price: 12€

Set in a sprawling mansion in the Marais, the Picasso Museum reveals the many phases of Picasso’s work. From rare sketches to bold sculptures, it offers a close-up of the artist’s creativity with a grand permanent collection and awesome temporary exhibitions, always marvelously curated.

The serene courtyard is perfect for a quiet break after exploring his masterpieces, and the central location and smaller size make it ideal for anyone craving a break from the massive museums.

Non Touristy Shopping in Paris

Paris is a shopper’s dream, but there’s so much more to explore beyond the big-name boutiques and crowded department stores. The city’s hidden markets, vintage shops, and charming bookstores offer a more personal, one-of-a-kind experience.

If you want to skip the chain stores and discover the true hidden gems of Paris, these are the best non touristy places to shop for unique souvenirs and beyond.

28. Weekend Brocantes (Flea Markets)

If you love scoring vintage treasures, Paris’s weekend brocantes are your dream come true. These pop-up flea markets offer everything from antique trinkets to mid-century modern gems. They have different locations throughout the city every Saturday and Sunday, with tables set up selling wares right on the street. Arrive early to snag the best finds, and don’t be shy about haggling—it’s all part of the experience.

Each market has its own personality, so you’re bound to leave with something unique. Some are more geared towards professionals, while others may focus on arts and crafts, provincial foods, or old books! You can find the weekly list of brocantes and their locations on this local French website, and remember to bring cash because cards are not accepted.

My favorite brocante finds include a vintage Armani pantsuit, sword shaped toothpicks, classic French glassware, and a gigantic mirror for my house.

Metro Stop: Varies | Opening Hours: Saturdays & Sundays, normally around 9AM – 3PM. See this website for dates, times, and locations.

29. Brocantes in Montrieul

Tucked in east Paris just outside the city limits, the Montreuil flea markets are a paradise for vintage lovers. Wander through endless stalls piled high with antique books, retro clothing, and quirky homewares.

It’s way cheaper than the brocantes or vintage shopping in central Paris, with much more unique offerings, too. You can take Metro Line 9 from the city center – it’s only about 20 minutes.

Metro Stop: Mairie de Montreuil (Line 9) | Opening Hours: Varies

30. Saint Ouen Flea Market

Or, treasure hunt on an even bigger scale. Located in the north of Paris, Saint Ouen is the largest flea market in the world, with about 2500 shops to peruse. The area is divided into several smaller markets, ranging from high end luxury goods to clothing and home treasures.

This is a great place to pick up souvenirs like authentic silver flatware, antique books and prints, and one of a kind items hiding throughout the market. It’s only open on Saturday and Sunday, and you should plan for at least a half day here.

Metro Stop: Porte de Clignancourt (Line 14) | Opening Hours: Saturday & Sunday 10AM – 6PM

31. The Abbey Bookshop

Hidden in the Latin Quarter, this cozy bookshop overflows with English-language titles stacked from floor to ceiling. While most make a beeline for neighboring Shakespeare & Co, the owner of The Abbey, Brian, makes sure there’s always hot coffee and great recommendations ready. I’ve discovered some of the best books of my life in this little shop and cannot recommend it more if you’re looking for non touristy things to do in Paris.

Metro Stop: Cluny La Sorbonne (Line 10) | Opening Hours: 10AM – 7PM (Opens at 2PM on Sundays)

32. Thrift Your Heart Out

Parisian thrift stores are a goldmine for unique fashion finds, and you’ll be rubbing elbows with local cool kids at any of the extensive secondhand shops in the city. Explore places like Kilo Shop, Guerrisol, or Free’P’Star where vintage coats, retro scarves, and designer gems await for ridiculously low prices.

If you don’t feel like digging, there are also tons of curated vintage stores, like Kiliwatch, Bobby, and little independent shops like Second Vague, which are a bit more expensive but worth every penny. Be sure to leave plenty of room in your suitcase to return with your treasures.

33. La Grande Epicerie

The Grande Epicerie is essentially the Erewhon of Paris. There are two locations, one in the 16th arrondissement and one connected to Le Bon Marche in the 7th. I highly recommend visiting the one in the 7th, which is larger, more central, and almost 2 euros less expensive for just about everything.

This is the best place to hit for food related souvenirs – the shop will even vacuum seal French butter to bring back in your luggage. It’s also a great place to stock up on picnic supplies or eat a yummy lunch at one of the many artisan counters. My personal favorite is the truffle deli turkey from the Italian section.

Metro Stop: Vaneau or Sevres Babylone (Line 10) | Opening Hours: 8:30AM – 9PM (10AM – 8PM on Sundays)

Eat and Drink Like a Parisian

Parisians know how to linger over a glass of wine, sip coffee while people-watching, and make every meal a moment to savor. We’re talking lunch that starts at noon and stretches well past sunset. Forget the tourist traps and let yourself be guided by local favorites – markets, wine bars, and terraces, oh my!

34. Marche Bastille

Sundays at Marché Bastille are a true taste of local Parisian life. Stalls overflow with organic veggies, fresh seafood, artisanal treats, and gorgeous flowers. Pick up a crusty baguette and local charcuterie, then picnic in the Bastille Square or the nearby Canal Saint-Martin for one of the best non touristy things to do in Paris.

Or, opt for one euro oysters and eat them on the spot with a glass of fresh white wine. I was there yesterday and had a banging, super authentic Thai green curry.

Metro Stop: Bastille (Line 1, 5, 8) | Opening Hours: Thursday 7AM – 1:30PM, Sunday 7AM – 2:30PM

35. Marche Saint Quentin

If you’re craving fresh produce, gourmet cheeses, and authentic French pastries, Marché Saint Quentin is your spot. This covered market near Gare de l’Est bursts with local flavors and makes a perfect stop for picnic supplies or just some leisurely browsing.

I’m obsessed with the little Japanese stand here with authentic bento boxes and rice triangles, ideal for a quick lunch if you’re walking to Montmartre or headed to the train station.

Metro Stop: Gare de l’Est (Line 4, 5, 7) | Opening Hours: Varies, see this website for up to date information

36. Eat at Wine Bars

While most tourists make a beeline for restaurants like Pink Mama and Peruche (gag me), the real Parisians are cozying up in dimly lit wine bars, serving small plates and natural vins, generally from local producers.

Some of my favorites are Les vins de Martin, Paloma, and L’Orllion. The best wine bars are normally outside of the tourist areas, but they are well worth the trek. Trust me; my favorite and most delicious meals in Paris were at these restaurants. Try to make a reservation if you can since they fill up fast.

37. Ground Control

Part food market, part cultural hub—Ground Control is where you can grab everything from vegan tacos to natural wines while exploring pop-up art exhibits and live music events.

Casual, cool, and perfect for groups, this is a fun break from the tourist track and one of the best non touristy things to do in Paris.

Metro Stop: Reuilly – Diderot (Line 1) or Bercy (Line 14) | Opening Hours: 12PM – Late (Closed Monday & Tuesday)

38. Tea at the Grande Mosque

For a peaceful escape, sip mint tea in the courtyard of the Grande Mosquée. The lush greenery and Moroccan tiles create a serene break from the city buzz. It’s centrally located, making it a convenient stop if you’re in the 5th arrondissement.

Don’t skip the sweet pastries and a camera – it’s one of the most photogenic places in the city. It’s also open 365 days, with a restaurant and even a traditional Hamman (women only) for an extra unique experience.

Metro Stop: Gare d’Austerlitz (Line 5, 10) | Opening Hours: 9AM – Midnight

39. Drink Coffee on Terraces

While most tourists are too busy rushing from attraction to attraction, real Parisians are sitting around drinking coffee. They sip espresso on brasserie terraces, rain or shine, yapping away to their friends and chain smoking cigarettes.

Order a café crème, grab a table outside, and people-watch as one of the best non touristy things to do in Paris. I particularly like the terraces on Rue de Buci in the 6th arrondissement.

40. Spend the Night at a Vinyl Bar

For a unique night out, check out vinyl bars like Montezuma, Fréquence, or Bambino. These spots mix craft cocktails with curated records, making the perfect laid-back vibe for music lovers.

Earlier in the evening, these bars often have great small plate options before people start dancing. They get packed, so arrive around opening to get a seat, especially if you want to make dinner out of it.

41. Have a Drink a Les Nautes on the Seine in the Summer

When the sun finally shows up, Les Nautes becomes the ultimate summer hangout. This riverside bar on the Seine offers great cocktails, chilled rosé, and sunset views that feel straight out of a movie.

Parisians flock to this place, making it one of the best non touristy things to do in Paris, and the bar overflows onto the banks of the river, which are lined en masse by people of all ages drinking and enjoying the vibe.

More Non Touristy Things to Do in Paris

And to wrap it up, here are some final non touristy things do in Paris to really make the most of your trip.

42. See a Movie

Paris has no shortage of grey days, especially during the winter months. If you’re visiting during this time period, one of the best non touristy things to do in Paris is seeing a movie.

Most of the big theaters show English versions with French subtitles, making it an easy way to escape the rain or warm up for a couple of hours while soaking in a big screen.

43. Go Bouldering in Fontainebleau

Just an hour from Paris, Fontainebleau offers world-renowned bouldering spots surrounded by beautiful forests. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned climber, the natural rock formations provide endless challenges and scenic beauty.

Okay, so it’s not exactly off the beaten path, considering how well known the place is among climbers, but it’s definitely not part of the classic Parisian tourist track.

44. Take a Day Trip to the Loire Valley

I cannot overstate how magnificent the Loire Valley is, and considering it’s only an hour and a half by train, it’s perfect for a day trip from Paris. The entire region is brimming with sprawling castles and intricate gardens.

Visit destinations like Chambord or Chenonceau, while most tourists fight their way through Versailles. It’s a much more relaxed way to see royal France, and the countryside gives a different taste of French life. You can book train tickets from Paris to cities in the Loire Valley like Blois, Tours, and Orleans, on the SNCF Connect website.
