The best hotels in Tangier are not the big ones you see lining the beach boardwalk… They’re the ones hidden in the alleyways of the Old City, down nondescript roads, and tucked behind corners you’d never think to look.
After visiting the city over half a dozen times while living in Morocco and always struggling to find the best place to stay in Tangier, I decided to write this guide to help anyone in my position. Whether you’re visiting for a quick trip or staying for a hot sec, there’s a little something for everyone in terms of Tangier hotels.
Before diving in, here’s what I’ve learned from booking places to stay in Tangier: You’ll find tons of affordable, basic hotels and riads that range from $20 to $50 per night, depending on the time of year you visit Morocco. If you have a little more to spend, $100 – $150 per night can get you a very sweet hotel in Tangier, and $200 – $500 will score a room fit for royalty.
The 17 Tangier hotels on this list are handpicked based on personal experience, offering an option for every type of traveler. From solo backpackers to honeymooning couples, the best hotels in Tangier will not disappoint.

Best Hotels in Tangier: My Top 3 Picks
Having visited the city a handful of times, I’ve had the opportunity to stay in several different hotels, featured here. These are my top picks, covering a budget, mid-range, and luxury-priced stay.
Insider Tip: I always book my hotels through Booking.com because of the Genius reward program. You earn points for every stay that eventually lead to huge discounts and benefits. I regularly get 50-70% off my rooms, plus free breakfast, upgrades, and other perks, just because I book through Booking.com. Kind of like credit card points but wayyy better.
Here are 3 of my favorite places to stay in Tangier, from simple to spectacular.
1. Budget: Hotel Mauritania
Location: Medina (Petite Socco)
Price: $
Best For: Central budget stay
Hotel Mauritania is among the best hotels in Tangier for budget travelers. It’s where to stay for practical, no-frills accommodation with an unmatched location in the Tangier media, and very helpful, kind staff. I’ve stayed here half a dozen times and have always had a positive experience. It’s clean enough, and the rooftop has one of the most epic views of the medina and water. On a clear day, you can see across to Spain and Gibraltar!
The hotel itself is just on top of Gran Café Central, a city mainstay and local hub. It’s the perfect place for breakfast and people watching, and especially convenient since the property doesn’t offer anything to eat. If you don’t mind a bit of background noise, book a room with a balcony and you’ll get to watch the activity of the Petite Socco, one of the main squares in the Tangier medina.
I’m sure there are better-rated places to stay in Tangier than good old Hotel Mauritania… but something about this place keeps me coming back. A big factor is that it’s located in the middle of the Tangier medina, so if you get dropped off at the Grand Socco on top, you only have to walk three minutes downhill to the hotel, instead of lugging your bags up the steep streets of the car-free Old City. It’s also easy to get a taxi from the same drop-off point whenever you want to venture further than the medina or travel to Chefchaouen and other parts of Northern Morocco. I honestly love this hotel, especially as an alternative to hostels in Tangier. I don’t have enough good things to say about it.
2. Mid-Range: Riad Sultana
Location: Medina
Price: $$
Best For: Moroccan-style Old City stay
Riad Sultana is a lovely mid-range priced stay in the heart of the Tangier medina. It offers Moroccan-style accommodation in a classic riad setting, which is a quintessential part of the Moroccan travel experience.
I’d recommend this stay for couples or friends traveling together, as there’s a choice between a double or two twin beds in your room. Everything is spotless and tastefully decorated, leaning into Moroccan patterns and color palettes, with soft sheets, private bathrooms, and plenty of room to store your belongings. It’s located steps away from all of the medina’s top sights and a ten-minute walk to the beach.
One of the best parts of this place to stay in Tangier is the included breakfast – expect heaping plates of traditional breads, pastries, eggs, fruits, drinks, and more to start your day off right. Though I found the biggest draw to Riad Sultana is the outrageous view from the rooftop. Given its strategic position in Tangier’s Old City, this hotel has panoramic views of the medina in every direction. A room will run you between $60 and $100 per night – it’s totally worth it.
The word riad refers to a traditional Moroccan home built around an interior courtyard often with a central fountain, intricate tilework, and shaded galleries. Many feature rooftop terraces offering panoramic views. In Tangier, as in much of Morocco, some of the most charming and atmospheric hotels are set within beautifully restored riads.
3. Luxury: La Maison de Tanger
Location: Grand Socco
Price: $$$
Best For: High-end hotel for couples
Luxury hotels in Tangier are plentiful and deserving of the splurge to dip your toes into the waters of North African opulence. La Maison de Tanger is a regal stay and among the best hotels in Tangier for a high-end experience in a boutique setting.
The riad is nestled within lush gardens, a stone’s throw away from Tangier’s medina and a fifteen-minute walk to the beach. The benefit to staying outside of the medina means that this hotel can be reached by car – no lugging bags through the hilly Old City and easy taxi access whenever you want to explore further afield. That said, you’re still walking distance to the best attractions and the yummiest restaurants in Tangier.
Rooms have a cozy feel while being plenty spacious. Unlike most characteristically dark riads, natural light streams through the hotel’s windows, fragmented by the abundant trees that fill the garden. The private bathrooms have a spa feeling, especially if you opt for a higher-level room, which includes an ensuite tub.
While not overly expensive, La Maison de Tanger offers a hyper-luxurious feel, with attentive staff, delicious local cuisine, and a little swimming pool to cool off in. Sit on a lounger with a glass of wine and soak in the Tangier sun. There’s no better place to do it.
11 More of the Best Hotels in Tangier, Morocco
Full disclosure: I’m a creature of habit, so once I found my favorite hotels in Tangier, I stayed at them often. Also, as much as a girl can dream, I’m not made of money and tend to stay at more budget-friendly places (or on my friend’s couches). BUT I handpicked every hotel on this list after 20+ hours of research, both online and through local experience. I asked my Moroccan friends what hotels were really worth staying at in Tangier, and more importantly, why.
The hotels featured below cover every price point, amenity, and type of traveler. I strived to pick something for everyone, so if you found this article, I sincerely hope that there’s a hotel that speaks to you on this list (drop me a comment at the end of the post if you did!).
Okay enough with the babbling, here are 11 hotels in Tangier that are worth considering for your trip.

4. Villazancot
Location: Grand Socco
Price: $$
Best For: Value for solo travelers or couples
Villazancot definitely offers the best value for money when it comes to where to stay in Tangier. The rooms are cozy, clean, and tastefully decorated, with a nice blend of Moroccan and modern elements. The property feels like a breath of fresh air from the busy city, and the staff will go the extra mile to ensure you have a comfortable stay, making you feel right at home from the moment you arrive.
The rooms are air conditioned (a must for visiting Morocco in the summer), and many have a private terrace. When you need a break from exploring, hit the rooftop for unmatched views or relax in style, and don’t forget to wake up for the huge breakfast spread in the morning!
This is among the best hotels in Tangier for a central location close to the Grand Socco and a luxurious stay that won’t break the bank.
5. Idou Malabata Beach & Spa
Location: Malabata Beach
Price: $$$$
Best For: Luxury resort-style beach stay
I highly recommend this Tangier hotel for anyone looking for an exceptional experience while visiting the city. It’s a top pick for luxury hotels in Tangier, with a resort feel overlooking the ocean. Extravagant is an understatement with every amenity you can imagine, like a pool, lounge, cocktail bar, restaurant, and spa. Food is next level, service is fit for royalty, and views are simply stunning. The entire property is a feast for the eyes, making it a great stay for architecture lovers, along with anyone seeking an upscale stay.
Rooms at this five-star hotel in Tangier are modern and sleek, with an immense amount of care put into the design. It’s about a ten minute taxi from the Old City on a quieter, more private part of Malabata beach. No detail is spared, so kick off your shoes, sink into the plush bedding, and prepare to stay a while. You’ll never want to leave.
6. Dar Hikayat de la Kasbah
Location: Kasbah
Price: $$
Best For: Group stays in a private home
Live like a local in your own Moroccan-style house. This is one of the best places to stay in Tangier for families, small groups, or those dreaming of extra space instead of a cramped hotel room. It’s located in a quiet neighborhood behind the Kasbah – a calm oasis in the busy medina with easy access to anywhere in the city. It’s right next to Cafe Baba, one of the top things to do in Tangier, and around the corner from Chez Hassan, one of my favorite local places to eat.
The home is decorated to the nines with vibrant Moroccan decorations, filled with thoughtful touches, and super sweet staff who are ready to help with anything you need. Enjoy breakfast with a view on the shady rooftop terrace, cozy up with a book in one of the many nooks, and experience one of the most peaceful parts of Tangier’s Old City. The house sleeps between 4 and 6 people and all three floors, plus the rooftop, are yours.
7. Hotel Rembrandt
Location: New City
Price: $$
Best For: Affordable stay with a pool
This Tangier hotel checks all the boxes in my book: clean, well-located, and very affordable. Hotel Rembrandt is a swanky city hotel in the main downtown area of Tangier, about an equal distance between the medina and the beach (you can walk to both!). It’s really convenient to stay outside of the Medina if you plan to take a lot of taxis or want easy access to your hotel at the end of a long day. Expect an amazing sea view, delicious breakfast, and very, very good value.
The rooms are basic, but paying a few extra bucks for the sea view double will get you a little private balcony overlooking the water. Beds are comfortable, and at this price point, having a pool with sunbeds is a huge luxury, deeming this worthy as one of the best hotels in Tangier.
8. Dar Souran
Location: Medina (Petite Socco)
Price: $$
Best For: Comfortable riad stay in the medina
This gorgeous riad is one of the best hotels in Tangier for an authentic stay with the most accommodating host who’s always around to help. It’s located in the center of the medina next to the Petite Socco, putting you in the middle of all the action, with colorful, cozy rooms and intricately tiled bathrooms designed in Moroccan style.
The architecture of the riad is Instagram worthy, with tons of natural light pouring down the center of the building and soaking through the surrounding arches. Every corner you turn has a surprise, and, like any proper riad, the best is often hidden on the roof: a panoramic terrace where you’ll enjoy a huge breakfast spread every morning.
9. Kasba Blanca
Location: Kasbah
Price: $$
Best For: Cozy rooms & delicious rooftop breakfast
Sitting on top of the medina, next to the Kasbah, this Tangier hotel is beyond stunning, with a perfect location for exploring and friendly staff who are filled with recommendations and will help with anything from taxis to day trips. Be sure to take a quick 15-minute walk to the Cafe Hafa for a vibey mint tea and stop by the Phoenician Tombs on your way back to the hotel!
Soak in ocean and medina views from the riad’s rooftop terrace over breakfast or mint tea, and enjoy a spotless private room decked out with Moroccan touches. After a long day of getting lost in the old city, come back to a warm welcome and a very comfortable bed.
10. Riad AMR
Location: Medina (near Grand Socco)
Price: $$
Best For: Authentic riad stay with range of options
This gorgeous riad is one of the best Tangier hotels for a classic Moroccan stay. It sits right in the heart of the medina with easy access to the Grand Socco, which is convenient for arrival and taxis. It features all the elements a true Moroccan riad should like elegant decorations, a rooftop terrace with a gorgeous view, and a delicious homemade breakfast every morning.
Rooms range from basic to modest “suites” with a little sitting area and a wardrobe. Given the size of the rooms, this is one of the best hotels for solo travelers in Tangier – everything you need for a comfortable stay in the thick of the Old City.
11. El Minzah Hotel
Location: Between Old and New City
Price: $$$
Best For: Centrally located luxury stay
If you’re after a larger property versus a smaller riad, this is one of the best Tangier hotels that doesn’t sacrifice quintessential Moroccan style. Staff will cater to your every need, and the location is second to none, right in between the medina and the new city. It’s a 10 minute taxi to the Tangier Railway and 15 minutes to the CTM Bus Station, making El Minzah a practical base to travel beyond the city, if you want to take a day trip to Chefchaouen, for example.
This Tangier hotel is a peaceful, inspiring place with spacious rooms suited to a range of budgets. El Minzah has a pool to cool off in (sooo needed in the summer months), and lounge chairs to catch a tan – you’re on vacation, after all. There’s a spa and hammam, plus two delicious restaurants on site, which will come in handy, because you probably won’t want to leave!
12. Tangier Seaview Suites
Location: Tangier Railway Station
Price: $$$
Best For: High-end apartment stay
Sometimes it’s so nice to have your own space while traveling, and this stay in Tangier makes that possible with an immense amount of style. This apartment is sleek and modern, with gorgeous ocean views backing the city. It sleeps 5 people, making it a smart option if you’re traveling with friends or family – plus, it becomes much more affordable when split between a few people.
The location is practical for visiting the city and beyond, situated right next to the train station, where you can travel from Tangier to Casablanca in 2 hours on the TGV. There’s a balcony, a living and dining area, and a full kitchen with a coffee maker. Coupled with a very helpful host, this apartment really has everything you need for a long or short stay.
13. Lalla Soulika
Location: Kasbah
Price: $$$
Best For: Romantic couple’s getaway
This boutique luxury hotel in Tangier is perfect for couples or friends traveling together. The rooms are significantly larger than what’s found in most riads, with opulent furnishings and spa-like bathrooms. It’s hard to put into words how special this place is – everything has an elegant Moroccan flair to it, and the property looks more like a palace than a hotel. It sits in lush gardens with plenty of areas to enjoy, from the interior pool hall to the rooftop lounge area.
You can easily tell that each aspect of this property was thoughtfully chosen. Prepare to have your expectations exceeded in every area from breakfast to interaction with the brilliant staff. Located right next to the Kasbah, you can walk anywhere in the city. Or take a free lift from the hotel in their club cart.
14. Kasbah Rose
Location: Kasbah
Price: $$
Best For: Clean, quiet stay, great for digital nomads.
Kasbah Rose is a quiet guesthouse in the medina with five cozy rooms that cater to all types of travelers, decorated with an eclectic mix of African, Dutch, and international treasures. Featuring a Moroccan-style build, the rooms have signature arches, tiled bathrooms, and comfortable beds to sink into after a long day of seeing the city. The entire place is spotless from top to bottom, and if you snag a balcony room, you’ll have a panoramic view of the city all to yourself.
The staff at this Tangier hotel will go above and beyond to ensure you have a pleasant stay, filled with unique recommendations to help you get to know the city on a local level. The WiFi is also fast, and there are comfortable places around the property to work, making it well-suited to digital nomads. I can’t recommend this stay enough.
Bonus: Best Hostels in Tangier
While shared accommodation is fairly uncommon in most parts of Morocco, Tangier has some awesome hostels. These are especially great stays for solo travelers looking to meet other people, or if you want to save a few bucks on where you sleep in the city.
These are my top picks for the best hostels in Tangier (spoiler: they’re incredible!).
15. Socco Hostel
Location: Medina (Petite Socco)
Price: $
Best For: Vibrant communal stay
Socco is one of the best hostels in Tangier, situated in the heart of the medina, just a short distance from the Port. This hostel surpasses expectations with a super clean and comfortable atmosphere for budget travelers, with spacious dorms, high-end furnishings, and stunning hand painted murals on the walls.
There are 4 and 6-bed dorms, plus a 4-bed female dorm and private rooms with bunk beds for groups traveling together. All dorms have lockers and a little closet to hang clothes (such a nice touch!), and beds have blackout curtains, a reading light, and an outlet.
This is one of the best hostels in Tangier for a posh, affordable stay with a rooftop terrace, daily breakfast, and 24-hour reception (handy for late-night check-ins).
16. Bayt Alice Hostel
Location: Medina (Petite Socco)
Price: $
Best For: Relaxed hostel stay with helpful staff
Well-known as one of the best hostels in Tangier, Baytalice offers dorms and private rooms, with a strong community feel. Beyond only Tangier, many people say this is the best hostel they’ve stayed in during their travels, and it’s easy to understand why once you see the place.
The rooftop lounge, accessed via spiral staircase, is filled with lush greenery, hammocks, and plenty of places to chill out, while the indoor common areas have a homey feel. If you want to cook, there’s a kitchen, plus speedy WiFi, a work station, and super cool staff who will help with tour booking or luggage storage.
Dorms sleep between 4 to 7 people (love the small size), and the privates have the option for one, two, or three beds in case you’re traveling with friends and want to share a room. Overall, this is a great hostel in Tangier for digital nomads, backpackers, and solo travelers looking to meet like-minded people.
17. Tangier Kasbah Hostel
Location: Kasbah
Price: $
Best For: Budget friendly dorms and private rooms.
When you’re not out and about, connect with fellow travelers on the rooftop, catch up on work with the fast WiFi, or cook a meal in the communal kitchen. The hostel can also help book tours or arrange transport, whether you’re going around the city or somewhere further afield.
Down a quiet street on top of the medina, you’ll find the Tangier Kasbah Hostel, a top choice for budget travelers in the city. Choose between a 4 and 6-bed dorm, or opt for a private room with an ensuite bathroom for extra privacy. With plenty of Moroccan touches throughout, this Tangier hostel has created a comfortable environment with curtains on the bed, lockers, and individual reading lights in the dorm.
